James M. Morris (7.3 Kills)
77th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Group
Jim Morris called Detroit, Michigan home. All of his victories were scored
in the P-38 and he was one of the top scores in the European Theater in
this type. His biggest day came on February 1944 when he downed two FW-190s
and two ME-109s. On 7 July 1944 Morris was in the process of downing an
ME-410 when the German plane shot him down. He parachuted from his stricken
craft and spent the rest of the war as a POW. Contrary to popular opionion,
he never flew "Black Barney". This was Col. Barton Russells's plane. His
four victory day came while he was flying LC G serial number 42-67871 but
the plane he called his own was "My Dad". This ship was coded LC E serial
number 42-67717 named "Til we meet again" .
